Over the past 15 months the project team have developed the proposals for the new Museum in preparation for the second round application to the Heritage Lottery Fund. The design team have developed the competition winning design through to RIBA Stage D, detailed design alongside the exhibition and interpretation proposals, business plan and activity and conservation plans.
The design remains true to the original concept, a cluster of simple building forms arranged to frame and connect views to boats, views to water and views to distant landscape horizons. This organisational idea breaks down the scale of a large museum to a smaller scale more consistent with vernacular forms that have a sensitive relationship to the beautiful shoreline landscape. The design of the key spaces within each building has been considered in relation to making a strong visual connection to boats on water and these spaces are orientated towards the lake, at the heart of the concept is the ability to bring boats to any space, inside or outside of the Museum.
